Procrastination is the thief of time – that’s what Edward Young – an English poet and dramatist wrote in “Night Thoughts” and I am not sure any one of us can say we don’t procrastinate at some time or other in our business and daily lives.
Wikipedia says – Planning is the process of thinking about the activities required to achieve a desired goal. It is the first and foremost activity to achieve desired results. It involves the creation and maintenance of a plan, such as psychological aspects that require conceptual skills. There are even a couple of tests to measure someone’s capability of planning well. As such, planning is a fundamental property of intelligent behaviour.
I’ve been doing a little experiment over the last few weeks – to see how much time I waste. Now, by waste time I don’t mean relaxing, reading a book, taking 5 to do nothing other to “Just Be…” or to take a day off completely to refresh yourself as and when you feel the need…
No, I mean those 5 minutes that suddenly turn into an hour when scrolling on Facebook or Instagram – hands up whose been there? Earlier this year I used a bit of cool Instagram functionality – it would tell me when I had spent a specific amount of time on Insta – Well, I set it at an hour – thinking that would be plenty! I can tell you, there have been more than a few epic fails – I’ve sometimes reached the hour before I’ve even got out of bed and all I’ve done is scroll, look at videos showing people crumble soap and watch, in absolute fascination at “Noodle Lady” eating… yes, you’ve guessed it… Noodles!
